hosted a Tribal Tobacco Tax Seminar event in Winnebago, Nebraska in August. Representatives from 29 Tribes across the country participated
in the seminar. The 2-day event
mainly focused on the importance for Tribes to develop their own Tribal tax system and to strengthen economic
development on the reservation. More

Lance Morgan, President and CEO of Ho-Chunk, Inc. will make a presentation during the Native Nations Tribal Leaders Tax Summit to be held April 19 and 20th at the Miccosukee Resort in Miami, Florida. The Summit is sponsored by the United South and Eastern Tribes, Inc., the National Congress of American Indians and the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians. The event is hosted by the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida. More

Pact Act Is Attack On Tribal Sovereignty |

The enactment of the PACT Act in June 2010 has caused numerous concerns on behalf of Indian Tribes throughout the United States. Provisions in that law specifically target tribes who sell tobacco on their reservations. The Department of Justice has been noticeably silent on how they will interpret the rules in regard to Indian Tribes. A tribal consultation was held in 2010 but at that time no specifics were communicated to the tribes attending regarding the interpretation of the rules as it applies to Indian Country. More
